YOUR FIRST STAR SESSION

A familiar face.
A clear first step.

A free, 30-minute assessment and introduction gives us time to get to know your daughter and talk about coaching that fits her.

Complete beginner or experienced club player, she can start from where she is. Tell us what she enjoys, what she wants to try and what would help her feel comfortable.

GETTING TO KNOW HER

What happens
at the assessment?

The aim is to understand the player and find useful coaching priorities. The activities and pace are adapted to her; she can ask questions, take a moment and tell us how things feel.

  1. Start with a conversation.

We ask what she enjoys, how much football she has played and what she would like to get better at. Parents can share useful context, and the player has space to explain things in her own words.

  2. Get to know her football.

Simple football activities help us observe her movement, technique and decisions. We choose a starting point that suits her experience and explain what we would like her to try.

  3. Talk about the next step.

We discuss what we noticed, listen to how it felt for her and explore suitable coaching options. Her age, goals, confidence and weekly commitments help shape that conversation.

A SIMPLE CHECKLIST

Ready for
her first session.

We agree the practical details before she arrives. Her usual comfortable sports kit is a useful starting point; STAR can explain what is suitable for the session.

  • A drink

Bring water so she can have a drink when she needs one.

  • Comfortable sports clothing

Choose clothing she can move in comfortably, with layers suited to the weather and venue. Talk to us about any clothing preferences or needs.

  • The right footwear for the venue

Confirm the playing surface, suitable footwear, shin pads and any other kit requirements with STAR before the session. Ask before buying anything especially for the assessment.

  • Confirmed meeting details

Check the agreed date, time, venue and meeting point. Contact STAR if anything is unclear or your plans change.

Share important information privately.

Use the private player onboarding form for relevant health, emergency and support information. Contact STAR before the session if there is something we need to understand or discuss.

HER COMFORT MATTERS

New place.
Her own pace.

Feeling nervous about a new coach or setting is something we can talk through together. Ask us to explain what will happen and tell us what helps her settle.

Explore our approach to inclusion →

For beginners

We coach girls of all abilities. Let us know what she has tried before, even if that is simply playing at school or kicking a ball at home. We explain activities clearly and give her time to have a go.

For individual learning needs

Tell us about communication preferences, sensory needs, autism, ADHD or anything else that affects how she learns. We discuss practical adjustments with the family and listen to the player’s own preferences.

For parents and guardians

Ask about arrival, staying to watch and where to wait. We confirm arrangements for the agreed session and venue. You can also share questions beforehand so we can discuss them together.

CHOOSE THE NEXT STEP TOGETHER

What happens
afterwards?

We talk about suitable programmes and how coaching could fit around school, club football and family life. You can ask about availability, session arrangements and what each option includes.

The player’s view matters. Give her time to say what she enjoyed, what felt unfamiliar and whether she would like to continue.

BEFORE YOU SET OFF

A few questions.

Do we need to choose a programme first?

No. The assessment and introduction help us understand the player and discuss a suitable starting point. You can explore the programmes beforehand or talk through them with STAR.

Can she ask for a break?

Yes. Tell the coach if she needs a drink, a pause or an explanation. We want her to feel able to say what helps.

What if we need to change the date?

Contact STAR as soon as you know so we can discuss the arrangements. Wait for confirmation of a new time and venue before attending.

Does she need a separate player login?

No. Begin with a parent account and complete her player onboarding form. A separate Player Space login can be added later.

LET’S GET TO KNOW HER

Her first step
starts with a conversation.

Create a parent account, complete her player profile and submit a request for her free assessment. STAR will agree the arrangements with you.
